🫶 Import to repositories

You can utilize a local Git repository as a workspace for maintaining and iterating on your components.

Installation and Initialization:

  1. Install the Bit CLI on your system:

    npx @teambit/bvm install
    CopiedCopy
  2. Initialize a new Bit workspace within your repository, or create a new one:

bit init # initialize Bit within your repository
bit new react my-project # create a new repository
    CopiedCopy
  3. Import any of your Bit Cloud components into the repository:

    bit import COMPONENT
    CopiedCopy

This creates a hard copy of the component in your repository, enabling modifications while retaining access to Bit workflow commands like bit start and bit create, similar to a Cloud Workspace.

IDE Setup

For an optimal development experience with Bit components, we recommend configuring your VS Code environment following this guide. This setup grants you access to the same Dev-experience and features available in Cloud Workspaces.
