Apps are Bit Components with an added App Plugin file. This plugin defines how the app is run, built, and deployed.
Use Apps to build static websites, microservices, microfrontends, serverless functions all the way to full stack platforms.
When you use an app template or ask Hope AI to create an app, you receive a component with the app plugin pre-configured. For more flexibility and in-depth information, read more on Bit.dev.
Creating a Basic React Application
- Go to the Cloud Workspace Starters.
- Select the "React" starter.
- Provide the project's name and click "Create workspace."
- When the workspace loads, run the command
bit app list. - Copy the app's name and run
bit run APP(replaceAPPwith the copied name).
Similarly, you can use Hope AI prompts:
- Start a new Hope AI session.
- Enter a prompt like: "Create a static website for a developer portfolio."
- Click "Generate."
- Once generation is complete, the app will be running.
- Click "Edit code" to explore the underlying code.
To create a Bit-app from your local computer or a Git repository, follow the documentation on Bit.dev.
Application plugins with a deploy function will trigger a deployment process upon build completion. This allows for automatic deployment of new app versions to a remote server upon approval and shipping, making them accessible to users. For deployers that support Lanes, you can configure a staging environment for your app per lane.
